DIOR Addict, a bold amber floral fragrance

Los antecedentes The background

DIOR Addict (Eau de Parfum) se lanzó en 2002. Los creadores de esta fragancia son Thierry Wasser y Christian Dussoulie. La colección de perfumes DIOR Addict está compuesta por tres fragancias: DIOR Addict Eau de Parfum, DIOR Addict Eau de Toilette y DIOR Addict Eau Fraîche.

DIOR Addict (Eau de Parfum) was released in 2002. The fragrance was created by Thierry Wasser and Christian Dussoulie. DIOR Addict perfume collection comprises three fragrances: DIOR Addict Eau de Parfum, DIOR Addict Eau de Toilette and DIOR Addict Eau Fraîche.

DIOR Addict EdP is a fragrance with a simple yet bold accord story. Warm and intriguing, it’s one of those fragrances that get you noticed.

A qué huele DIOR Addict?

DIOR Addict es un perfume ámbar floral, pero esencialmente es una fragancia de vainilla ligeramente empolvada con un toque floral fresco y chispeante. Sus notas de salida son zarzamora, hojas de mandarina y flor del árbol de la seda. Sus notas de corazón son jazmín, azahar y rosa. Sus notas de fondo son vainilla, haba tonka y sándalo de Mysore.

What does DIOR Addict smell like?

DIOR Addict is an amber floral fragrance, but in essence it’s a slightly powdery vanilla fragrance with a fresh and sparkly floral edge. Top notes are blackberry, mandarin leaf and silk tree blossom. Middle notes are jasmine, orange blossom and rose. Base notes are vanilla, tonka bean and Mysore sandalwood.

El envase The bottle

Los grandes perfumes siempre suelen ir acompañados de un envase que los representa y DIOR Addict no es una excepción. El envase de esta fragancia es una joya del diseño. Práctico y discreto pero único y sofisticado a la vez, este envase se convirtió en icónico desde el momento del lanzamiento de la fragancia. Su diseño tuvo tanta aceptación que ha inspirado el envase de otros productos de belleza de DIOR, como algunas líneas de labiales. De hecho, veinte años después DIOR sigue incluyendo en el diseño de sus productos el característico acabado redondo plateado con las iniciales CD grabadas que funciona estupendamente para abrir los productos. 

The packaging of this fragrance is a real design gem. Simple and understated yet chic and unique, the bottle became super iconic from the moment the fragrance launched. The design was such a hit, it inspired the design of other DIOR beauty products, like some lipstick lines. In fact, twenty years later, DIOR still includes in some products design the signature silver rounded tip with the CD engraving that works wonders to open the products.

Visión general Overview

Esta fragancia siempre será especial para mi porque me recuerda mucho al tiempo que estuve viviendo en Londres. Recuerdo perfectamente probar la fragancia en los grandes almacenes Selfridges justo cuando se lanzó y me gustó muchísimo, hasta el punto que al día siguiente me la compré. También recuerdo haber recibido muchos cumplidos cuando la llevaba y la gente me preguntaba qué fragancia era. Sonaba bien responder DIOR Addict, hasta el nombre del perfume tenía encanto. El perfume me duró menos de medio año y eso que normalmente suelo tardar mucho en acabar perfumes. Imagino que me sentí adicta a la fragancia. Después la reemplacé por DIOR Pure Poison, una fragancia totalmente diferente y un regalo que me hicieron. Cuando volví a mi país me olvidé por completo de DIOR Addict.

This fragrance will always be special to me because it reminds me so much of the time I lived in London. I perfectly remember sampling the fragrance in Selfridges when it first launched and I instantly fell in love with the scent, to the point I bought a 50ml bottle the following day. I also remembered receiving so many compliments at the time with people asking me what fragrance I was wearing It felt nice to say DIOR Addict, even the fragrance name had an alluring quality to it. I finished the bottle until last drop in less than 6 months – I usually take ages to finish a fragrance. I guess I got a little addicted to it at the time! I then replaced this fragrance for a gifted DIOR Pure Poison, a totally different fragrance concept, and once I moved back home, I totally forgot about DIOR Addict.

La fragancia nunca dejó de venderse, lo que es todo un éxito porque actualmente hay un montón de fragancias que salen al mercado y dejan de venderse tan buen punto bajan las ventas, pero durante años no la vi expuesta en ninguna tienda. Hace unos meses, la volví a ver la botella azul característica de DIOR Addict en una perfumería. Volver a oler esta fragancia después de 20 años fue un despertar de los sentidos y me di cuenta que me sigue gustando tanto como en el 2002. Sin pensarlo, compré DOR Addict por segunda vez.

The fragrance never got discontinued, which is a real success these days because there are so many fragrances being discontinued just as soon as sales drop, but I never again spotted the bottle in any shop shelves. That was until few months ago, when I saw the midnight blue bottle displaying in a beauty shop top shelf. Smelling the fragrance 20 years later, it was an awakening of the senses and realized I still love the fragrance as much as I did back in 2002. Without hesitation, I got DIOR Addict for a second time.

 

Personalmente, creo que DIOR Addict es una fragancia que rebosa sensualidad. Cremosa y envolvente, puede ser bastante potente en la salida, pero cuando se seca en la piel pronto evoluciona en una fragancia dulce. La nota de vainilla es probablemente la más predominante, pero DIOR Addict es muy diferente a las fragancias de vainilla convencionales, en el sentido que no es súper dulce ni empalagosa. Una mezcla perfecta de vainilla y sándalo hacen de DIOR Addict un perfume delicioso y misterioso a la vez. Es sin lugar a dudas un perfume dulce pero sin ir al extremo. Notas florales equilibran el dulce de la vainilla y del haba tonka, dando un sutil toque herbal y musgoso a la fragancia. Para mi, DIOR Addict es seducción y poder pero a la vez confort y nostalgia.

In my opinion, DIOR Addict is a very bold and sensual fragrance. Creamy and sultry, it can be quite powerful at the opening, but it dries down into something very sweet and smooth. The vanilla accord is probably the most prominent, but DIOR Addict smells so different from a conventional vanilla fragrance, in the sense that is not totally sweet and cloying. A perfect blend of vanilla and sandalwood make of DIOR Addict a delicious and mysterious masterpiece. It definitely is a sweet scent, yet it manages not to be very sweet. Floral notes balance the vanilla and tonka bean sweetness and give a herbal, mossy quality. For me, this fragrance is seduction and confidence yet comfort and nostalgia.

DIOR Addict es una fragancia para tiempo fresco, principalmente otoño e invierno pero también me gusta llevarla en las noches frescas de primavera. La duración y proyección de esta fragancia son excelentes. En mi piel dura todo el día sin necesidad de reaplicar y con poca cantidad es suficiente porque es un perfume intenso muy concentrado. DIOR Addict es una de esas fragancias que se notan a distancia y dejan estela cuando pasas. Además es una fragancia que llama la atención y con la que se reciben muchos cumplidos.  

DIOR Addict is a fragrance for cool weather, mainly for fall and winter, but I also love wearing it in cool spring days and summer cool nights. Longevity and projection are outstanding. It lasts all day in my skin with no need to reapply and  a little bit goes a log way because it´s a very intense fragrance. DIOR Addict is one of those fragrances that projects in the long distance and gets you noticed, plus a real compliment grabber.

Creo que este perfume vintage es todavía muy moderno y singular entre todas las fragancias dulces y gourmand que hay disponibles actualmente. La fragancia actual es ligeramente diferente a la original, pero incluso después de varias reformulaciones, investigando para esta publicación he descubierto que se reformuló en 2012 y 2014, mantiene el mismo ADN y es casi igual a la fragancia que me cautivó en 2002. Quizás algo menos dulce, pero eso la hace más interesante para mí, ya que es algo más fresca y cítrica.

I find this vintage fragrance is still really modern and unique amongst all the sweet, gourmand fragrances available these days. The current fragrance is slightly different from the original, but even after reformulations – doing some research for this post I learnt DIOR Addict was reformulated in 2012 and again in 2014- it keeps the same DNA and it’s very much the same beautiful  fragrance that captivated me back in 2002. Perhaps a little less sweet, but this makes the fragrance even more appealing to me, as it feels a little bit fresher and more citrusy.
