CHANEL N°19 (Eau de Toilette) se lanzó en 1970. El creador de esta fragancia es Henri Robert. La fragancia se presentó cuando Coco Chanel tenía 87 años y unas semanas antes de fallecer, convirtiéndose en el último perfume creado bajo su supervisión. El nombre la fragancia se refiere a la fecha de nacimiento de Coco Chanel, el 19 de agosto. La colección CHANEL N°19 está compuesta por cuatro fragancias: CHANEL N°19 Eau de Toilette, CHANEL N°19 Eau de Parfum, CHANEL N°19 Poudré y CHANEL N°19 Extrait Parfum.

CHANEL N°19 (Eau de Toilette) was released in 1970. The fragrance was created by Henri Robert. The fragrance was launched when Coco Chanel was 87 years old and only few weeks before she died, becoming the last perfume created under Coco’s supervision. The fragrance name refers to Coco Chanel date of birth, August 19th. CHANEL N°19 collection comprises four fragrances: CHANEL N°19 Eau de Toilette, CHANEL N°19 Eau de Parfum, CHANEL N°19 Poudré and CHANEL N°19 Extrait Parfum.

A qué huele CHANEL N°19?

CHANEL N°19 es una fragancia floral verde. Las notas de salida son gálbano, jacinto, bergamota y neroli. Las notas de corazón son iris, rosa, lirio de los valles, narciso, jazmín y ylang-ylang. Las notas de fondo son musgo de roble, vetiver, cuero, cedro, almizcle y sándalo.

What does CHANEL N°19 smell like?

CHANEL N°19 is a floral green fragrance. Top notes are galbanum, hiacynth, bergamot and neroli. Middle notes are iris, rose, lily-of-the-valley, narcissus, jasmine and ylang-ylang. Base notes are oakmoss, vetiver, leather, cedar, musk and sandalwood.

El envase The bottle

CHANEL Nº19 Eau de Toilette viene en un envase de lo más chic. Con un ligero aire vintage y manteniendo el estilo del frasco original de los años 70, es de aquellos envases icónicos que nunca pasan de moda. El bote de cristal rectangular viene con un aplicador en spray sin tapón de color plateado mate y un pulsador en dorado con el logotipo de la marca grabado en blanco. El diseño me parece de lo más singular y elegante, dos características que definen a la perfección la fragancia CHANEL Nº 19.

CHANEL Nº19 Eau de Toilette comes in a very chic bottle. With a slight vintage feel and keeping the essence of the original 70’s bottle, its one of those iconic packagings that never go out of style. The rectangular glass bottle comes with a matte silver capless spray applicator and a gold push button with the brand’s logo engraved in white. I find the bottle design very unique and elegant, two features that perfectly define CHANEL Nº 19 fragrance.

Visión general Overview

Siento predilección por las fragancias florales verdes. De hecho, muchas de mis fragancias  favoritas son de este tipo. Como GUCCI Envy (mi perfume favorito de todos los tiempos que desafortunadamente no está disponible desde hace años) PRADA Infiusion d´Iris  o CALVIN KLEIN Eternity. Los perfumes florales verdes son frescos y juveniles y nos evocan la hierba fresca, los jardines de flores o los paseos por el parque. Por su carácter dinámico, son capaces de levantar el ánimo en cualquier momento.

I particularly love floral green fragrances. In fact, most of my favorite fragrances are floral green. Just to name a few, GUCCI Envy -my all time favorite fragrance which unfortunately got discontinued a while ago-  PRADA Infusion d´Iris or CALVIN KLEIN Eternity. Floral green fragrances are essentially fresh, with a youthful feel to it. Floral green fragrances evoke fresh grass, flower gardens and walks in the park. With an airy and animated nature, floral green fragrances are dynamic and able to uplift your mood instantly.

Cuando estudiaba en la universidad mi mejor amiga llevaba CHANEL Nº 19. Yo en aquella época llevaba ISSEY MIYAKE L´Eau D´Issey, que me tenía fascinada y una de mis fragancias características que todavía llevo en la actualidad. CHANEL Nº 19 me causó muy buena impresión desde el primer momento. Una fragancia fascinante, elegante y discreta, pero no fue hasta años más tarde que verdaderamente cautivó mi corazón. Iba buscando un perfume que reemplazara GUCCI Envy y probando fragancias florales verdes me crucé de nuevo con CHANEL Nº 19. El flechazo fue instantáneo: la compré inmediatamente.

When I was at university, my best friend was wearing CHANEL Nº 19. At the time I was wearing ISSEY MIYAKE L’ Eau D´Issey, one of my signature fragrances which still wear these days. My first impressions on CHANEL Nº 19 back then were truly positive: an incredibly beautiful, chic and understated fragrance, but it wasn’t until years later that the fragrance really stole my heart. Looking for a floral green fragrance that could replace the discontinued GUCCI Envy, I sampled CHANEL Nº 19 and that was it. I bought it inmedately.

Se trata de una fragancia sin referentes, no he olido ningún otro perfume que se le parezca. Una fragancia muy refinada que evoluciona en la piel de una manera muy equilibrada pero a la vez inesperada. Poco tienen en común las notas verdes iniciales con la fragancia floral delicadamente empolvada que permanece en la piel al secarse.  Es mejor no dejarse intimidar por las primeras notas olfativas porque la verdadera grandeza de este perfume se percibe después de unos minutos de haber entrado en contacto con la piel. Al principio, la fragancia tiene una gran presencia, pero no es disruptiva, más bien todo lo contrario, es muy agradable. La salida verde un tanto intensa del gálbano dura muy poco y huele realmente fresca y apetecible La fragancia pronto evoluciona a una mezcla floral empolvada en la que predomina el iris suave, cremoso y limpio. Es realmente en el secado donde CHANEL Nº 19 irradia su verdadera belleza. Las notas empolvadas del iris se mezclan maravillosamente con una base de notas amaderadas, creando una fragancia increíblemente relajante y armoniosa.

This fragrance is unprecedented. I have never come across any other fragrance that smells like it or even close to it. A truly stylish fragrance that evolves onto skin in a very balanced but unexpected way. The initial green notes have nothing to do with the delicate powdery floral scent that lingers on my skin when it dries down. It’s best not getting intimidated by the first olfactory notes because the true greatness of this perfume shines after a few minutes of being in contact with skin. At first spritz, the fragrance has a big presence, but it’s not disruptive, more like the opposite, it’s truly inviting. The galbanum opening is relatively bitter and green but it’s pretty short-lived and it smells fresh and welcoming. The fragrance soon evolves into a floral powdery blend that dries into a soft, creamy and clean iris scent.  It’s really in the drydown where CHANEL Nº 19 truly radiates. The powdery iris notes wonderfully blend with a base of woody notes, making an extremely relaxing and harmonius fragrance.

Desconozco la duración y proyección de la formulación original y otras reformulaciones anteriores, pero la fragancia actual tiene una duración moderada y muy poca proyección. Algo totalmente atípico en los perfumes de CHANEL, que suelen durar muchísimo y proyectar de manera espectacular. Si quiero oler a CHANEL Nº19 todo el día, tengo que reaplicar cada tres o cuatro horas. Sólo me gustaría que tuviera una mayor proyección, y entonces sería increíblemente perfecta.

I don’t know the lasting power and projection of the original formulation and previous reformulations, but the current one has a moderate duration and a light projection. Something totally unusual for a CHANEL perfume, which have an amazing lasting power and projection. If I want to smell of CHANEL Nº19 all day long, I need to reapply every three or four hours. I just wished this fragrance had a more powerful projection, and it would then be absolutely perfect.

 

Uno podría imaginar que esta fragancia de los años 70 sería más bien madura y anticuada, pero no lo es en absoluto. CHANEL N°19 es de una belleza clásica y atemporal. Es fría, discreta y reservada, pero también tiene una calidez tenue que la hace extremadamente agradable y fácil de llevar. Fresca y chispeante, pero a la vez con un toque empolvado algo melancólico. Llevo CHANEL N°19 desde hace diez años y cuanto más la llevo, más me gusta y más aprecio la belleza detrás de su composición única y visionaria. Sin apenas darme cuenta, se ha convertido en mi fragancia favorita.

You would assume this 70’s fragrance would be mature and dated, but it’s not the case at all. CHANEL N°19 is classically beautiful and timeless smelling. It’s cold, understated and secretive, but it also has a subdued warmth that makes it extremely easy to love and wear. It’s fresh and crisp, yet with a powdery and somewhat melancholy slant. I’ve been wearing CHANEL N°19 consistently over the past ten years and the more I wear it the more I like it and the more I appreciate the beauty behind its unique and visionary composition. Without even noticing, it has become my signature scent and my favorite fragrance.
